Feed The World
"We know that a peaceful world cannot long exist, one-third rich and two-thirds hungry."
-- Jimmy Carter
Today in our society food has become one of our biggest problems we have had to face today. Advertisement, price and picture of food the reason for this is the rich taste that has already concord our taste buds. But you have to ask yourself how and why? Its hard to say, but without adequate growing ways we will not be able to feed our world in the future.
Our first problem is that to many people our being born for our world to sustain food production in the future. My research says, "that 4.45 people are born to 1.18 death rate every second". (Population reference Bureau's) While people are being born we will need more land to build houses and buildings for jobs. But by my research that is impossible to calculate. To get an idea we need to start using our resources wisely and effectively. We would also have to keep the poor well fed to achieve the greatest world goal. But in order to do that we have to open more jobs and raise our nations employment rate. In the past we only grew enough food to cover our uses. Six out of eleven years we have used slightly more food and resources than we had to give. Which makes feeding the poor extremely hard to do. Another problem with feeding the poor is that now days people are getting rich diets which requires more food to produce. Which make us want more food witch drives the demand up drastically. Tell me that you have never drooled or just felt hungry for that new McWhopper on TV, for two dollars at McDonalds. So with our rich diets and population growth we would not be able to feed the population. Another reason why we cant feed our world is because "we throw away about 20-50% of our food"(feeding nine billion) which can be used to feed the needy more effectively. If we will be willing to work together to solve these problems we could be that much closer to saving the future.
My second problem I will be addressing will be the water situation because there would be no life without water. Something that we need to address is our pollution which people are somehow oblivious to now days. What the big companies are doing is dumping sewage into lakes, rivers and oceans. Which is now creation dead zones in oceans. Dead zones are places where no life is sustainable witch in the long run reduces the amount of fish there that are safe to eat. Also in silver-ton where you look at the river and how it is green. The reason why it looks that way is because of the mineral deposits that are being dumped in the Animas. Right there you are not allowed to drink the water or swim in it because it is not safe for you. Also our water is running out like in Florida‚ rapid use of groundwater has created thousands of sinkholes that devour anything, houses, cars and shopping malls , unfortunate enough to be built on top of them. Also in "Texas and Oklahoma our two major aquifers in the next 30-50 years will be completely out of water"("Food,Land,Population and the U.S. economy"). I an completely horrified about the crisis we are in.
The last bad news would be that all of these bad things are to be happening when "energy prices are rising and climate changes are occurring".(feeding nine billion) While this is happening our farmers will be paying more to keep their farms running. When this happens food production will drop and farmers will be selling their lands to cities because they can't pay their rent. While all that is happening our farmers will be growing less because they are getting to hot or cold because of climate changes happening. My solution to this problem would be to buy food from our local farmers so we don't start running on empty with our food. The main reason why I say that "is because those small time farmers are standing as a buffer between individual consumers and global markets that at any time could stop".(feeding nine billion) Also said, "critical line of defense between world hunger"(Feeding nine Billion). So how could we stop all of this we need to look for solutions.
Now I have done some research about feeding the world and this is what I came up with. One on my solutions would be "look to the third world because they are using only 20% the production levels that they could potentially be growing". (feeding nine billion) Also it could open up more jobs to help the third world reach their future potential. But the only problem would be that Africa's farming techniques and culture are completely different from our own and would be very difficult to come to a peaceful solution. "We could also go vegetarian because right now animals take up about 70% of our farming water so we will have more water for everyone and more water for planting". That is a good idea but the problem is that fresh soil is needed for good productive plants and a lot of times our good soil comes from animals manure. Also we would be getting far less nutrients than we were getting in the past. Also we "could use GMO's because we would only need a little amount of water and less land needed for food production."(Food Inc) Ok but what about all those harsh chemicals, animal cruelty, human cruelty and land fills. But now it is my turn to give a perspective. if the world forgave loan's to countries in debt and started building food storages near vulnerable countries for when droughts happen. While new science ways were being made to keep new and better agricultural ways. Also helping the third world reach a better farming situation we would make more food. Finally if we had G.M.O drought resistant crops to fall back on if times get rough. We will be able to sustain future populations with no problems.
